BFRB

Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors or BFRBs are impulsive control behaviors which involved a person engaging in repetitive, compulsive behaviors that are complex and damages their physical appearance.

Examples of BFRB’s are:

  • skin picking
  • nail biting
  • hair pulling
  • compulsive nose picking
  • hair cutting
  • hair pulling

BFRB’s are classified as impulsive control behaviors that cause both physical damage and injury.

The onset of BFRB’s begins in late childhood or in the early teen years according to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (2009).
